Basic Rug Care
Below are some basic rug care instructions. For additional details on caring for your rug please click here.
Vacuuming -NEVER USE A BEATER BAR. SUCTION ONLY. While it is important to vacuum your rug to remove harmful dirt and grime, you don’t want to disturb the fibers. This applies mostly to hand-made, natural fiber rugs. Beater bars stir up more fibers and cause unnecessary shedding. By using suction only, it will remove the dirt and grime without causing additional harm to the rug. Also keep in mind that if your rug is reversible, you should vacuum both sides.
Pet Hair - Pet hair is fine, making it difficult for vacuums to collect. If you notice that your vacuum has left behind pet hair, we recommend using a stiff brush to remove the remaining hair.
Rug rotation - The combination of sunlight and foot traffic over time can add extra stress on your area rug. To keep from wearing out quickly, it’s important to turn your rug once or twice a year. Doing this will help prevent uneven wear, and help extend the life of your rug.
Shaking Out Your Rug - Some rugs are too large, but if you have a small rug, remember to take it outside and shake it out vigorously. Doing so will help remove any remaining dirt or grit that may be left over after vacuuming.
